It pisses me the fuck OFF how half-assed the worldbuilding is. It's all so inconsistent and nonsensical. They didn't put any fucking thought into it.
Everything about language is completely fucking incoherent. The concept of multiple languages exist - yet the languages are never named. You see characters using French and Spanish, even languages that don't even have a region based on them like German and Chinese. But they just never name these languages. French is not even called "Kalosian" or something.
On top of that, the existence of other languages is never actually relevant. All characters can communicate with each other perfectly fine the first time they meet, no matter where they are from. People from Paldea can travel to Kitakami, which is a small ass town on the other side of the planet, and talk with the locals there. AND YET there's a handful of nameless NPCs that revolve around the fact that they can't speak the local language. THAT DOESN'T MAKE ANY FUCKING SENSE! Where the FUCK are these people from?? I fucking hate that they include the concept of other languages but completely half-ass everything about it. Just fucking don't do it then!
Same with the written language. Since a few gens ago, they started using a made-up writing system. But there's no logic to it. There's no consistency at all. Different media use completely different scripts. They reuse the same "words" for completely different contexts. What's the fucking point??
If they want me to believe that the Pokémon world uses a fantasy language, then fucking ACT LIKE IT. Make them speak gibberish like the Monster Hunter language or something. Easiest fucking way to include voice-acting too. Literally just think about it for more than 5 seconds beyond "let's include real languages in the game!" Do literally anything that makes me believe that you actually care, that the Pokémon world is not just a marketing ploy to sell toys.
