I sometimes wonder if the accelerating culture and technology kind of broke a sort of oral history of sharing stories and culture via second-hand media consumption (watching shit movies on tv with parents because it's all you have at that time, fr ex) and whether this is why lots of older people, even total mongs, have very large general knowledge and trivia bases and a common sense about how to act around people for the most part
they've kind of been marooned on a new media format and are no longer watching whatevers on but what they want to pick and choose and it turns out, that's not as educational as being stuck inside on a sick day and watching BBC1's daytime TV programming because what the fuck I have six hours until the Simpsons comes on, you know? It's not being shared down and they're not seeking it and it's led to this generation of people who just don't pick up the same things from the same places
