I'm not sure that's entirely accurate. If she just wanted to get out, then killing Lupa probably would've worked. Same as with the story Rover was in. The problem is that neither of of them wanted to do that over just beating the shit out of Cristo/Leviathan. In Carty's case especially, she wanted to keep Septimont from succumbing to the dark tide, and escaping probably wouldn't have done that.
