I don't know enough about art to pinpoint why this cover art feels lame on a technical level, but there's just genuinely nothing cool about it. The dwarfs don't look particularly ferocious or badass with their weird floaty poses, and their gear just kind of looks really boring. The composition also feels really empty. It's over 50% sky and almost no action. Absolutely zero juice. I found this old image of a WFB Dwarf cover and the difference feels like night and day. Lots of color, lots of action, and you get a bit of that classic Warhammer goofiness with the guy in the middle just sat in his chair chilling with his thick ass book like he doesn't even give a fuck about the battle raging around him. Don't know why so much modern fantasy art is like this.
