I understand your pain completely. I've consumed a fuckton of romance media and I keep encountering the same recurring issues with any story involving forbidden love in that the "forbidden" part is barely explored if at all. It's a natural source of conflict and tension without having to resort to the idiotic forced-drama stuff that happens in a lot of media, romcom anime being one of the more serious offenders of this, and yet it's horrifically underutilized as a mechanism to explore the relationship further. I feel like a man in a desert drinking his own sweat and saliva for water, I'm not adding anything, I'm merely recycling what I already had.
