Nothing can follow GRODT, honestly, so many things fell into place for it to succeed the way that it did, surely surpassing expectations. When it dropped it was everywhere, you could be someone who could give a fuck about mainstream radio, pop, all that, but here was this monster record. You could not escape it.
Massacre had Ski-Mask Way, if the whole album had that vibe it would've been classic, Jada leveled it with that "weedplay" bar
CURTIS finds the balance pop/street, it's a really good album overshadowed by the Kanye/Rockafella war, yet going back to CURTIS it's definitely a strong album.
BISD is good, but by this time you can tell Fiddy dipped
War Angel was the last mixtape I heard and it's kino
GRODT has a strange legacy. There seems to be an active campaign to downplay its influence and importance. It's one of the only truly great rap albums, I listen to now and then. GRODT definitely mogs the shit out Illmatic

naivety towards new sounds was uncharted territory, it wasn't a feeling like trying to master it, just adding to the wave, plus of course the equipment/gear. Shit always sounds better yesterday, that's a cold hard prism to live with
Sadly or not, rap music perfected this wave hopping from early 90's-00's-10s with a communal sound that built upon structures/samples/flows simple af
Take that early G-Unit mixtape run for example and the 4 years that happened after, it's a build upon build, a feel upon a feel, niggas rappin over other niggas instrumentals, that was a shout out to a moment, like Styles P going over a Z-Ro song, it was all love, or Max B doing a Britney Spears beat, Diplomats cheek in tongue doing Jefferson Starship with coke raps. No matter what you may think of this genre, it's genius that a scene like this existed, with so much mass appeal, and having so much to navigate and explore. That timeline was gold for that genre, much like late 60's-70's rock bands building upon riffs, hooks, from other bands, creating a scene that is a tightly woven tapestry
t. Communal feels, 80's hardcore guy so I know what you're talking about
