VIII is my favorite though VII is close behind and I even have some love for I (GBA) too.
VIII really needed more player expression in the junction system. Something that gives players reasons to junction one magic to a stat vs another. As it is, you just put whatever is best for that slot in its respective place, too pretedermined, too rigid. Them growing up together in the orphanage together was ridiculous but we don't talk about that.
