for me i learn edges the best when i just experiment. some paintings ill draw with a soft brush and only carve out edges here and there. and then you learn how edges change the feel of a face.
or exchange edges to try something out. for example if i change the edges of the nose to soft on the outside and hard on the inside, how does it change the look?
and sometimes edges feel hard when they are actually not that hard and vice versa.
