My ultimate motivation for acting is impulse and desire. I seek for stimulation, as anything from a moth to a chimpanzee would. I look for pleasure, and thus engorge myself in anything that I can draw pleasure from. I continually return towards sources of humor, nonsense, pretty-but-useless things, and ultimately things that are strange or otherwise amusing. Thence, for me, following what I believe to be "good" or "necessary" is nothing more than a very high form of stimulation. Impeccable surfaces and orderly sets feed my desire for order and cleanliness.
I do not believe in empathy per se, but there is something in me about a wish for justice and rectitude that mentally inclinces me against any acts of injustice, because injustice and inequality are in and of themselves unappealing to me.
I do not believe that you have an obligation to think and act like I do, but I hope that you may understand that some of us out there do really believe that acting justly and doing the best we can to serve others simply feels better than merely acting in our personal interests.
