I agree with you in premise of colonialism having been a mistake, however one can raise the GDP by exchanging the same coconut for currency 20 times in a row. A better measurement for society is the quality of life, and the quality of life. Africans seem to be happier in the mudhuts (watch African tribe documentaries if you don't believe me).
If you force a cat to wear clothes they don't like it, and if you force a vegan to eat a steak it actually makes them sick (since their body isn't used to meat). Forcing Africans to live in cities is cruel and we should have never tried it. Cities and towns are good for Europeans but aren't so good for the Africans.
