Unironically yes, Megami Tensei 2 for example, Giten Megami Tensei, the books etc. Atlus was at the cutting edge of adult JRPGs, but now I feel like they are becoming more and more pussified.

SMT V had a lot of restraint, and zero gore, DQ feels more like edgy (though DQ always did also have a dark aspect) these days. Not like a game needs gore to be dark, but I feel SMT is edging towards pic-related
