If you were a fan of JRPGs, Dragon Warrior 2 landed right in the middle of a good batch of 8 and 16 bit games and we saw a mix of first person dungeon crawls, action rpgs and topdown turn based types. Those two years were amazing and very busy ones for the genre.

I played virtually all of these on their western release dates except the first phatasy star as I never owned a master system. 1989-1991 I was just starting high school and hung out with a group of people I played D&D with in elementary school and we embraced console RPGs so went after anything and everything. Stuff like magic of shaherazad was a quick weekend rental but most of the above RPGs were a great experience. DQ2 had great longevity and was too long to beat on a normal rental, but we knew even then it felt old. Not hydlide old, but dated.
