That happened like a decade ago with one of the major retcons. Back then I thought Void Lords were to Old Ones what Outer Gods were to, well, Great Old Ones in Lovecraftian Mythos. But apparently they really did mean just big Voidwalkers. Although I thought that was already retconned several times after that.
