As a new player should I play WoW classic or WoW retail?

So if I'm just adventuring through Kalimdor on the cataclysm timeline, should I just do that on classic? I'm quite new to retail and WoW, not sure what it has besides new expansions. Will there be people doing the dungeon in azeroth or everyone in dragon flight/other new places?
