Today I spent an hour on an R12. Even though it forces you into a hunched position this felt so ergonomically right that I was completely fresh after the ride. Handles perfectly, but something about it made me ride in a super relaxed manner. It's the first time I felt like I was CROOOOOOSING. Certainly a better cruiser than Nightster/Sportster S, but I'd take RevMax over this rumble machine. Its power delivery is just weird — it surely is powerful, but you need to rev it to squeeze the juice, but it is too slow to rev up, so you simply can't shoot from a stop light.

Dual sports have big wheels with knobbies to jump over logs and have traction on any terrain.
Sumos have small wheels with street/slick tyres to lean into turns at extreme angles without losing traction.
Slightly different geometry. And the riding technique is a bit different — e.g. offroading on a dual sport you'll ride standing quite often, but you'll tend to sit more on a sumo even if the terrain is the same.
The main difference is that sumos are superior and sexy.
