Bikes are cool and all but if I have to listen to one more Harley Davidson pull into the gas station with the loudest exhaust I've ever heard in my entire life and then rev the engine repeatedly as if everyone within a mile doesn't already have permanent hearing damage then I will have no choice but to throw its owner into the nearest storm drain and then rip it apart one piece at a time with my bare hands

you might want to save up a bit more, $500 isn't going to a reliable bike. you could find a scoot in that price range. what type of bike you fit depends on how tall you are. if it's your first bike best stay under 500cc engine size.

Tire plug kit and a tiny air inflator like pic related. Unless you have an ancient bike, the only issue you're likely to encounter with enough frequency to justify carrying a tool for it is running over a nail and getting a flat tire. I've been riding for years for a few tens of thousands of miles per year and flats are the only issue I've encountered that needed to be dealt with immediately.

I've you 20k km over 6 years, not much. But having tubless tyres, I've never faced a complete flat once, I check pressure before the ride, if its too less, check for punctures, plug and fill and ride. Fortunately same for Car, never stranded in the middle of no-where with flats. Also, I've never carried a pump or plug kit, I probably should.

I owned a Triumph Thunderbird that used to get flats constantly. I have no clue why that bike attracted nails and screws so much more than any other bike but it was definitely not a confidence. One time I hit a screw and lost air really fast, had to pull over at a gas station which was miraculously close by. Got the tire fixed. Next day the tire was a little low again and I thought the plug was leaking and shoved another plug in to double stuff the hole. Checked that it wasn't leaking, reinflate, and went for a ride. Then in 15 minutes the tire was low again and I realized I had hit a second screw on the way home the previous day and the tire had two holes.

i found a socket adaptor that coincidentally fits into the end of my screwdriver, so i carry this instead of a socket handle. there's a hole in the screw driver handle that i can feed a hex key through for more leverage if it happens to be a difficult screw. im also carrying extra fuses, small bits of wire, duct tape, zip ties. the biggest items are the fucking tube (fuck), small tire irons, and a wrench for the axle nuts. tubeless would get rid of like 80% of my tools weight.
Anonymous No.28505617 [Report] >>28505619 >>28505692
>>28505599
Yeah, can confirm you've definitely never done it. There's a reason that item is call "bicycle pump."

I think you've used that pump for your bicycle, and you're assuming that a motorcycle tire and a bicycle tire both at 1bar would contain the same amount of air. This is wrong because pressure is measured per square inch. So take your estimate and multiply it by 10 to get the actual duration.
Anonymous No.28505619 [Report] >>28505623

well thank fuck for the thinking version of AI

i run dunlop mx53, and i pump them to roughly 1 bar with something exactly like the tiny hand pump pictured. it really doesn't take that long
Anonymous No.28505623 [Report]
>>28505619
Fine, but that's a very skinny tire and a very low pressure. A sportbike rear tire takes 42psi which is almost 3 bar and probably has 3x the volume, and also take into account the fact that those little hand pumps get harder to pump the higher the pressure gets. It could easily take 10x longer to pump up most road bike tires. I would not recommend a hand pump to someone going on a tour especially because the electric one is basically the same weight, size, and price

I went for a ride on my old bike again and now I know why a new bike damages my thumb more despite being less buzzy:
- old bike's handlebar is thin, and the grips are thin, so the thumb barely touches the grip;
- new bike's handlebar is thick, and the grips are thick, and I tried to combat the vibrations by making it even thicker with a foam grip cover, so the entirety of my thumb rests on the grip, and whatever vibrations are there gets transferred to it more directly.

Obvious in hindsight.

Who said anything about stunting and going 150mph. Popping a little wheelie when no one's around, a short highway pull, smooth clutchless shift and tigh u-turns, etc... Those are all fun things to do on a motorcycle.
But if your roads are boring then being a bit more spirited in town and suburban riding is a good way to have some fun, just don't endanger other people.

getting stuck on rocks is due to the wide ass frame. digging holes is partially a skill issue but also because the tires are wide like road tires. the bikes above 450 are also heavy as fuck and you do not want to be picking them up all day. they are comfortable on dirt roads i guess but I wouldn't want to do any real enduro with one. no reason I wouldn't just get one of the enduro bikes with low maintenance intervals like the ktm/husqv/gasgas 700s

And by the way you bumbling slack jawed retard, the TLs swing arm was based off F1 engineering NOT moto gp so check yourself before you open your stupid fucking mouth again

You are both wrong. And you are both assholes.
It was only the shock, the rotary shock absorber that was based on F1 technology and didn't really work out. There are several kits available to replace it with a traditional shock.
As far as the geometry, half the sport bike sold today come with the steering damper. The ones that don't probably should.

Difference between supermoto and dual sport? They seem similar
Anonymous No.28511630 [Report] >>28511672
Today I spent an hour on an R12. Even though it forces you into a hunched position this felt so ergonomically right that I was completely fresh after the ride. Handles perfectly, but something about it made me ride in a super relaxed manner. It's the first time I felt like I was CROOOOOOSING. Certainly a better cruiser than Nightster/Sportster S, but I'd take RevMax over this rumble machine. Its power delivery is just weird — it surely is powerful, but you need to rev it to squeeze the juice, but it is too slow to rev up, so you simply can't shoot from a stop light.

>>28511607
Dual sports have big wheels with knobbies to jump over logs and have traction on any terrain.
Sumos have small wheels with street/slick tyres to lean into turns at extreme angles without losing traction.
Slightly different geometry. And the riding technique is a bit different — e.g. offroading on a dual sport you'll ride standing quite often, but you'll tend to sit more on a sumo even if the terrain is the same.

The main difference is that sumos are superior and sexy.
