Since 1945, the USA has been the leader of Western Civilization, with Europe playing a secondary role for the first time since Western Civilization began to expand outward in the 1400s with Portugal's feats of navigation and seafaring.
Sailing and naval expertise were at the center of the West's rise to dominance in the world.
But I wonder, how do Europeans feel about the West being led, since 1945, by a power that is not based in Europe, but instead in the New World?
Do Europeans resent the loss of their preeminence and central role in world affairs? Are there many "Ameriphiles" in Europe who see American dominance as a positive turn in history? What's the assessment?
