Alpha legion were still in a weird spot when DoW1 was in production, you'd start seeing them becoming the sneaky snakes after a lore rework for 4th edition which would release like 4 months before DoW1 did and instantly rendered the game kind of anachronistic. Before then iirc they were described more like guerilla specialists who loved taking on fights way above their weight class.
