First AK? Get the 7.62x39.
It's probably going to be your only AK, so you might as well have the most available least expensive mags.
Even if you're getting into a new caliber, it'll be worth it even if you don't end up really getting into AKs.
For probably under $2k you can get a rifle, stack of surplus steelies, type 56 chest rig, and a crate of Yugo M67 on clips.
