Most maori in NZ outside of bumfuck towns/regions which are basically reserves have very little or nothing to do with being maori. We also have a MASSIVE continent of LARPers who have only recently started identifying as maori despite being 80-100% white. In the last decade or so the maori population has skyrocketed despite them being below replacement rates because of people realizing great granddad fucked a maori and there's no blood quantum so they're just as native as someone who speaks maori in a 100% maori town
