You had me curious and I recently got a couple more combat troodon gen 3's and did some test firing. The double-edged dagger fired 100 times out of the box pointing up for firing retracting pointing down at all angles no issue, but the drop point? I did notice there were certain times like 1 in 20 upside-down retractions where it would fail, and sometimes it felt weak like it almost failed. I thought maybe I got a dud so I checked my other Drop Point CT I already owned and it did the same. I thought okay so the issue is exclusive to drop points. What is going on here?

I realized that the amount of "skeleton" i had behind the blade was less when I held it upside-down, and the retractions were causing the blade to jerk downwards more than when I was firing upwards. The drop point blade either has more friction or is simply heavier and is jerking the handle harder. So anyway I grabbed the knife handle with my other hand to brace it better while retracting upside-down and both drop points handled 100 retractions for 200 total with zero failures or even weak retractions.

I believe what you were having happen was that at those certain "problem angles" were angles where your arm had little structural support behind the knife while retracting, so the handle jumped forward more and induced a failure. This is also probably why I cannot recreate the issue whatsoever on my little utx-85.

What's the deal with single spring being more reliable? This is pure guesswork but my guess would be since it is harder to actuate you grip the knife handle harder and this provides sufficient support for retracting at all times, the looser dual springs mean looser grip means more handle movement in reaction to retracting.

If you can recreate the failure in your scarab while holding the knife more still with your other hand or just squeezing it like you were holding a 2010 model, I'd be really interested to hear if yours still fails. This might all just be a massive cope.
