Now, I also don't think HnK will be as fondly remembered, but to say it had no impact is retarded.
Like, Kenshiro being a big masculine manly man who cries was HUGE at the time. That was a major contribution to battle manga of the time, that these protagonist figures could show deeper emotions and still maintain the cold badass look.
And outside of that, it obviously inspired a lot of the direction Jump would take given how much it drew on Chinese films and Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Dragon Ball probably wasn't directly inspired (in regards to Toriyama), I imagine its Monkey King connection is purely Toriyama's, but it diverting into muscular martial arts fights against evil emperors?
Hell, Yu Yu Hakusho's structure fairly clearly takes as much from HnK as it does from Kinnikuman. The episodic experimentation at the start is Kinnikuman through and through, but its concluding arc? Hokuto no Ken inspired (and that's not entirely positive, as YYH purposefully ended in a way to make it seem like it got cancelled... which HnK was).
