You're an idiot. The bayonet is unlikely to be used for combat by the vast majority of soldiers ever, but that doesn't mean that it will never serve any purpose, and since we already solved bayonets as a whole by just making a soldier's general utility field knife attach like a bayonet (rather than having a special little sword or long spike you had to carry as a separate item, like in the olden days), there's zero reason for him to not have one.

You're probably never going to affix a bayonet in the field, but goddamn if I won't argue to the death that your field utility knife should be affixable as one, just in case.
