The Real World™ analog to this, would be you and a drinking bro going out for drinks, and your bro suddenly mid rum-and-coke dumping that he hates his girl, is struggling at his work, is worried about his direction in life, where it'll be X amount of years from now etc. etc.
But he REALLY appreciates you being there on Fortnite on the weekends, and being one of the only outlets he has left, one of the true bros in his life.
It happens. It's awkward. It's kinda sweet, in a way.
Say 'aw I gotchu bro (no homo).'
Either give him some space then to digest his fruity alcohol. Or steer it back directly to a match of Helldivers now, or later. Or a movie stream. Or something else, that just moves it on back to a sense of normalcy.
Nobrody is perfect.
Everyone would like an ear to vent to, on occasions.
That's what sets apart acquaintances from friends.
