Pretty sure it's not inherent but rather a recent development from having lost counter-culture, or having aged out of it. The boomers who brought on the 60s and wrecked our civilization are very old and powerful now. The shit that the left tries to keep pushing, in conformity with those relic sensibilities, just isn't funny anymore... precisely because it no longer challenges peoples' sensibilities.
