Expedition 33 either not explaining or invalidating its lore because "HURR DURR IT WAS ALL A PAINTING" really pisses me off. Those logs for the past expeditions are basically pointless. Gustave is pointless. And if that was the devs' point because they wanted you to focus on the character drama, Alicia was on the way to overcoming her grief and accepting her disability and the Verso shit seems tacked on for drama points. FFX never invalidates any of its lore like that
