These are people who think electricity happens by magic. They have no understand of all the basic infrastructure that underlies modern society. It's mostly invisible to them. If they do notice, magic is an acceptable explanation for them. The nuts and bolts of how apps work with their internet backends is of no concern to them. Only the frontend social aspects matter because as far as they're concerned, that's all that exists. Anything further down the layer stack is as icky as sewage pipes. They'd rather not ever have to think about it at all.
