>It's really special and if anything people who grew up with it might have a tendency to take it for granted and not understand how it feels the first time through.
I think thats a good portion of it. That and the fact it used to be the game all the posers would hold up to prove they were some big gamer when gaming was suddenly becoming more socially accepted.
I definitely had the same mentality as you going in though, but after playing through the entire mainline series back to back (including nes/snes titles), OoT definitely ended up on top followed closely by WW. MM was in a weird spot as I expected that would be my favorite as it was one of the only Zeldas I played as a kiddo and was my favorite game in general back in the day, but now I'd consider it fairly middle of the road. TP I didn't like as much as the others just because there weren't a lot of consistent NPC's throught the story. I now kinda want to go back and 100% it to see if any of the NPC quests will stick out and maybe make some side characters more memorable.
Skyward Sword though, man was that game a mixed bag. You could just tell the passion for the series was waning and that the mandated gimmicks were getting to the devs. A lot of quests end awkwardly, it somehow manages to feel like the smallest Zelda title even though I'm sure it isnt, and the characters just weren't all that memorable. Still, the OST was 10/10 and you could tell the devs got a second wind on the second half of the game. Like I said, its a bitter sweet send-off to an era that really was wonderful. I'm torn cuz Breath of Fire 3 was next on the backlog but I'm super tempted to go for the GB/GBA titles. Kinda sappy, but I just don't wanna say goodbye to it yet.
