It's more complicated than that. They have certain themes such as oppression of the minority and exploitation of values for gain.
But everything is secondary to the detriment of the characters.
The story has its weight, but I'd say the characters have a much greater weight than the story.
So much so that you can continue with an infinite SoL content with just the characters
