So there's actually a plethora of reasons why Archie ended the way it did and none of them had to do with the quality of the comic itself.
>Ken Penders lawsuit
This is a pretty infamous one - in order to avoid legal troube with Penders the Archie Sonic comic had to pivot to a reboot that erased every single non-SEGA or SatAM character from the comic canon.
There were still some 100 or so issues released for the comic after this happened.
>The Mega Man crossover
One of the last storylines the Sonic comic ever did was a Mega Man crossover which went WAY beyond just Mega Man - pretty much every SEGA and Capcom character you could think of had at least a cameo in this thing.
I don't think it's ever outright been confirmed, but Archie took a heavy blow from needing the license to all these characters and the comic wasn't really able to recoup the cost.
>Riverdale
Archie was putting all its eggs on Riverdale basket so they axed every comic that wasn't a part of their main universe of comics that the show was directly adapting from - this, unfortunately, included Sonic.
