You mentioned it was blotchy, but that's easy to fix with thinner paint. Besides that you seem to just need a finer brush for the decorations and you're passable. Hell, you're passable by the standards of half of the painters I know. Keep at it, this guy will enjoy his brothers getting the same treatment.
