Genestealer Cults. In a vacuum they're probably some of my favorites, especially the kits using improvised equipment or mining tools. What can I say? I love scrappy-looking armies (pic related). Unfortunately their end goal being getting eaten by tyranids (one of my least favorite factions) and sharing a lot of their design traits puts a bit of a damper on my love for them.

Yeah. In 2nd ed sergeants or champions or whatever were bought from the characters section and added to squads, but you didn't need one. I believe basic Space Marines did have one by default, and the option for them was to upgrade it to a veteran one. But for Chaos at least it was a totally separate unit entry.

Good. Scout sentinels have a pregame move and a base move speed that makes them S-tier for first turn objectives, moveblocking and screening.

Armored sentinels are annoyingly tough to remove for their points and can be a decently efficient anti-armor threat.

Both can take either regiment or tank orders so they are super flexible. The downside is the squadron size was nerfed from 3 to 2.

Also, don't say that "oh, the Krieg were just an alternate paint scheme for the Steel Legion" they only painted them that way because models for them did not exist every single piece of art, including art in on the very same page in their first ever army list has them wearing a radically different kit.

that's not SM so you don't want them to stand out as a SM would like to do. I would advise against highlighting and only use reses shades in the dark parts. no shiny metallic parts that let you again stand out. no colors that look valuable as silver or gold as IG troopers are as mass produced as the gear.

flat dark colors appropriate to environment so they pretend can blend in. can be represented on the base.

in the field you never use white on any part of your uniform as rank markings, no shiny polished belt buckles, buttons or magazines.

Yes. The Deathwatch are the chamber militant of the Ordos Xenos. Theoretically any Inquisitor with enough influence and cause could requisition a watch fortress to rally to a particularly important major battle. While they are normally only requisitioned in ones or twos, if an entire planet was falling to Tyranids in range of their watch fortress they would absolutely go to war as an entire army.

In terms of being allied to any army, its because they are being dispatched as assets by the Inquisition to aid an Imperium army or showing up themselves either on their own or after being asked because of their expertise in fighting Xenos.

In the lore the Deathwatch have deployed as full companies plenty of times. I recommend the Deathwatch Omnibus.

Personally once I was shamed into doing basing properly it was a really fun little hobby project and made all my minis look exponentially better. There was a nice sense of accomplishment and dopamine release to it that I wouldn't get from something plain or pre-made.
