Your block heater needs to be plugged in if it's below -15 degrees celcius or your car won't start. After that your engine has to warm up, if it cools off it won't start again. On older vehicles you have to warm up your vehicle before you start driving. If I were to turn off my car while waiting I run the risk of it not starting again, which was happening to me (because I was trying to keep my car off to preserve fuel) so I had to keep jump starting my car with an emergency jump-starter I keep handy, but this is hard on the engine.

think about it like this, 100,000 years ago your ancestors were sleeping on leaves, animal skin, a thatched grass bed, or if they were really rich they could afford a frame of raised wooden planks like the fucking pharaohs. 500 years ago they were doing the same thing. humans evolved to sleep on the ground with minimal cushion support.
