They would have worked better if they were equipped with weapons befitting a heavy-armored veteran. Since Combi-weapons got shrimplified, they can't have any modularity like the previous editions (even if they were struggling just as much to fill a role). Welcome to the hobby. If you want to paint an elite SoB, I'd point you toward a Paragon Warsuit. Elite is mostly synonymous with being a highly costed unit.

In my case, I'd point to Abberants. Genestealers are an army where units are comfortably below 100/pts per unit, and those 5 are 135 points - top unit in that entire range for point cost.

I love the Adepta Sororitas. I love my guardsmen too but sisters are the coolest. Cool armor, cool guns, cool tanks, cool angels, cool miracles, and I love women and looking at women. Everything is so perfect.

My favorite models are the retributor with the gas mask, the zephyrim with the banner, the Exorcist, and Celestine. Not all of my lists manage to fit all of them at all times, but I have some number of them every time.

I wish we could still soup guard and sisters together like back in the day but no big deal. I'm sure GW knows what they're doing and made the decision for important gameplay balance reasons. No I did not manage to keep a straight face while typing that. You can take a couple squads and characters as allies in a guard army, but that's not as cool as it was back in 4th edition, where you could actually legit split it down the middle and have a good sized regiment of guard allying with sisters. I had about 1500 points of each at the time so it worked perfectly for a 2500-3000 points game. Now I just expanded my sisters to 3000 points which is awesome and fun but I miss the allies system. Not the one we have now.

I don't get to play quite as often as I used to when I lived in another bigger city, but I still love everything just as much.

Allies of old was dog shit for the game. If you want to run allies in the old narrative style just tell your buddy you are playing with you are going to be running split sisters and guard. Normalize homebrew. The truth is is that is normally not very exciting because its either overpowered or underpowered to the point of making the game not fun to play. The new system is far more balanced and honestly more fluffy too. Detachments like Reapers Wager actually give you fluff and rules for that combination. Brood Brothers could really use some buffs though.

I'm just waiting on GW to make a guard x CSM allied detachment to make all the traitor guard enjoyers happily.

As a sisters player, there are plenty of ways you can convert your army to look like there are guardsmen along with your sister models. GW has released both sanctifiers and novitiates that have flak armour and carapace respectively and can be specc'd as guardsmen squads, with plasma/melta/flamer options. Castigator loadouts are almost the same as LRBT/Exterminator loadouts and in casual games I can't imagine anyone caring which model you use. Same with sentinels - make them counts as penitent engines. Yeah you can't do it with the rest of the guard codex but codex:witch hunters only gave you a few options to take anyway.

There are many things to complain about GW but saying that there isn't wiggle room to have a bunch of frateris militia/zealot guardsmen converted as part of a sisters army is just wrong. Especially since in 4th edition sisters were barely an army and now they're a viable and fluffy army.

Final game of necromunda campaign had all 9 players fighting over a moving train.
Everyone had a mix of conflicting and intersecting objective including detaching train carriages, killing the VIP at the head of the train, killing his guards but leaving him alive, stopping the train, etc.
I was the winner of the campaign so I was the one hired to protect the train, stop cargo from being detached and to keep the VIP alive.
I scored negative 10 victory points.
I had a big autocannon turret mounted to the train that I could control, but failed to even use it once because it required intelligence checks that I was failing despite decent intelligence. Wasted all my leader's turns with that.
I formed an alliance with one of the other players who neglected to tell me that he wanted to kill the VIP until halfway through when he started trying to telekinesis him off the train.
Guy in the plane kept firing pie plates from his crossbow thing, then used a fear spell that sent my last two guys running away, couldn't even hit it back with anything.
I kinda didn't have much fun because it felt like I couldn't do anything the whole time.
Still a cool game though. Highlight was probably my arms master getting knocked off the train, dodging a speeding buggy, then running back to the side of the train to pump firestorm rounds down the length of the train (blowing up some loot that was about to be dragged away) before running over to some guys who fell off the bridge that the train passed under and punching them to death.
