I have something similar from my mom beating me for most of my childhood. It doesn't result in me being a pussy that flinches that people though, a little bit of the opposite actually.
When I pass by people I'm extremely tense, my thoughts feel like they're speeding up and slowing down at the same time. My hand is itching for my knife, gun or it's simply in a fist waiting, ready to be thrown at the first of hostility or aggression. I observe them closely. I cannot let them get the jump on me. I know they want to attack me but they're almost always too scared to, they know I would kill them so if they were to attack me I need to be ready, willing, and able to kill them first.
The past cannot be allowed to repeat. I will never be made a victim again. All I have is myself.
