Realistically, Daisuke could have been nuked from the show and nothing of value would have been lost. Jap writers should honestly sit down before running these shows and ask
>"is anything going to happen with our romance subplots"
and if the answer is
>"no, nothing ever happens because we're bad writers"
then delete the character so you can focus on developing the actual good ones more, something that Fresh desperately needed for its back half. Fresh starts off so strong selling the idea of the main cast going way back as friends, but you can tell that the writers heaved a massive sigh of relief after Setsuna joins up, probably going
>"thank fuck, now we don't have to try anymore"
Because while yes, Setsuna is generally interesting enough to carry a huge chunk of the show from that point on and displays a level of care and perceptiveness that makes her fun to watch, the goodwill the show earned in the early game is quickly squandered entering the midgame which puts it on a bad foot for when the writers scramble to wrap it up in the last 20-25% or so.
What's annoying is that I don't think Miki and Inori are inherently weak characters, or else the early show wouldn't be very good to watch. I really think they just gave up because
