>When did left-wing politics in the West shift focus from class, economics, and collective/social issues to centering more on identity, the individual, and the self?
The formation of israel.

I'm not even joking. Most of the left's thought leaders pre-israel were jews who saw themselves as jews first and leftists second. When israel was created and leftists started opposing it, the jews started jumping ship. Since the left's leadership at the time was almost entirely jewish, the left basically collapsed from the top down as their entire leadership class switched sides. If you want the deep lore on this look into "Commentary". It was the primary journal in which the jewish intelligentsia coordinated the switch from communism to neoconservative in response to the creation of israel and the left's opposition to it.

Also look into groups like the "New York Intellectuals" (pic-related) which were communist groups that the founders of neoconservatism belonged to before jews abandoned the left in favor of israel.

Jews who remained on the left after the creation of israel abandoned worker-consumer oriented politics in favor of anti-white politics. This was the well-known "Frankfurt School", colloquially termed "cultural Marxism". Horkheimer and Marcuse was probably the most influential of the bunch.

>For Horkheimer, the working class had been a revolutionary subject only in the abstract, it was essentially an empty placeholder for the subject which would overthrow an economic and social system which they considered wrong
This was the exact moment that the "woke left" was born, although it took a white for it to completely replace the old left.

If it means anything my character arc was left -> white nationalism. A lot of it just came to do understanding how "social liberalism" creates conditions that make the economic goals of the left impossible, and after seeing enough examples of it I was forced to admit I was wrong. Once that threshold is crossed there is a big
>fuck
>i've completely misjudged these people
>these are mostly good people and i've treated them like they're monsters
which then motivates me to get even more active since it's no longer just about achieving political goals, it's about the personal aspect of "apologizing" through action to the people I've wronged.

I completely disagree here. McCarthy was minor, all bark no bite. What actually de-railed leftism in the US was the fact that almost all of the left's thought-leaders prior to the founding of Israel were Jewish, and with the founding of Israel many of them did a 180 due to the left's anti-Israel attitudes. If you want the deep lore on this, look into "Commentary". This was the primary journal hosting the conversations among the Jewish intelligentsia that led to their abandonment of the left and the creation of neoconservatism to replace and oppose it.

The old right didn't kill the left, the left's own Jewish leadership did. They saw themselves as Jews first and leftists second, and the left was seen as too hostile to Israel for them to continue supporting it. Neoconservatism was created to act as a pro-israel bulwark against the left and to replace the old right, now often called "paleoconservatism", which was also generally anti-israel. The Vietnam war was the tipping point where neoconservatism won and the American dialectic of leftism vs paleoconservatism went extinct in the mainstream and was replaced with the current zionist dialectic of neoconsertavism vs neoliberalism.

The only reason the establishment is at war with the left currently is because of Israel, and they are equally at war with the non-zionist right. If the left was pro-Israel neoconservatism literally wouldn't even exist. The entire neoconservative ideology was created by a bunch of communist jews who didn't like the fact that the American left were anti-Israel.
