there's a difference between celebrating what was and worshiping the ashes of what no longer is. successful nostalgia-oriented media comes from continuing old trends that have yet to lose their luster. the best "nostalgiabait" is a continuation of something that was cut short without realizing its full potential. if that potential was already reached and nobody shuts up about it, it isn't the same.

4chan wasn't "good" necessarily but it was fresh. it stayed fresh for a pretty long time and only started to suck when it became state media in 2011/2012 in the wake of the arab spring. it was over before any of you started browsing.
