It stayed under the radar in 2011-12, but was the beginning of the end, yes. 2014-2015 was the final blow, point of chans was being relatively anonymous and unknown, and then they got massive mass media exposure which attacked one of their strongest pillars.


You say it was fresh, and that's exactly my point. I doubt if in the 2000s for the same reasons I started 4chan back then if received the 4chan of today if would take it as a "cool thing" or "just another website".

Almost all the qualities that made it different are gone and supressed, it's fairly dystopian surveillance databse tier now, no more freedom feels.

This used to be EXTREMELY FAST and the only thing keeping coherency was that despite that memes more or less kept the culture together to make up for things disappearing and re-appering at such speed.

For threads/topics lasting 6 days, anywhere else on the internet is preferable really. Even oldschool internet chats are faster than that.
