>can't post gameplay webms on /v/ any more
I'm actually very mad now and demand an explanation. It's literally impossible to discuss new indies without churning out tons of webms. This better just be a temporary thing or it's the worst thing 4chan has done in a long time. This might actually ruin the board.

>shmups are xis favorite genre
When did I ever say that? My chart is 100 games and only has 4 shmups on it. Every shmup I like is relatively *easy* to clear and that's intentional. Difficulty is not inherently a positive. As I have said before, no good shmup has been made before 1994. Look at Hishouzame.
>backwards movement speed is slower
>off screen enemies aren't sealed
>enemies come in from the sides and bottom of the screen unannounced
>There's only like 5 enemy types
>the whole game is just basic bullet streaming
>often times there's enormous amounts of downtime
This is an antiquated and boring game. Difficulty should be a consequence of complexity and fully exploring it, not something arbitrary. The hard games I play are because they are complex and interesting, not because they are hard.

It's almost like taste changes over time and I'm 7 years wiser. When Isaac initially came out there wasn't much like it, the bulk of this time was before even nuclear throne released. I'm telling you, 7+ years in hindsight, what I wish I would have spent my time on instead.

PS4 is still getting top notch exclusives
https://youtu.be/L4-z9VRNKcQ
https://youtu.be/0ZceqLVCG-s
Since AAA is crap now everything is designed to run on a ps4 since ps5 has backwards compatibility. If you have a decent PC this gen is pointless. You'd have to be a total idiot to own a ps5 or switch 2 and literally insane to own an xbox.

But it takes 15 seconds to get to the boss from the last bench, there are like 4 whole enemies in the way. This is what happens when you waste all your time playing shitty rpgs and piss easy "retro games" instead of real video games.

>person studying basics of game development
But the reason I'm drawing all these parallels between dark souls and dungeon crawlers and shmups and so on is because these are all very core fundamental features of video games, and a lot of the crap you guys "play" is just interactive experiences well removed from what an actual game is. Like you don't like video games, you're looking for fulfillment from games that you'd better find elsewhere. You shouldn't even be here. You either forgot what games are really about or you never really played an actual one. Silksong is a very casual game, any idiot can play this, and even this toothpick sized hurdle is too monumental. So from my perspective there's no way we can coexist.

>you can't walk five feet without tripping over a chest or a puzzle or some collectable or a questline breadcrumb
That doesn't tell me anything. They're like ubisoft POIs, it's not like Stalker where you have like really intricate and unique anomalies, difficult to find stashes, or organic and interesting combat situations breaking out that are so great they can be the highlight of your entire playthrough. It just feels like an insanely generic open world game. I remember people comparing this to botw and that's very apt, as if the physics wank was pulled from botw you'd just be left with a super generic boring skeleton of a game where you collected random pieces of poop. That's genshin.

And it also has the China problem where all the characters are quite retarded and annoying.

>Gachas need to appear complex
I don't think it's purely appearances. Give this a look.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11X2P7pLuh-k9E7PhRiD20nDX22rNWtCpC1S4IMx_8pQ
This is an objectively more complex system with more modularity and strategic purpose than, say, feat stacking in PF WotR or Underrail. If you're saying developers have to make a game of high quality to sell a product, well I wish, but obviously the existence of RPGs is evidence contrary to that. Like FF7 is basically one long netflix movie padded out with poorly made minigames. It's quite shit.

Nah, fallout and elder scrolls are games designed for people who never played a video game before. It's no shock that young people like them, as they haven't had time to really dive into video games yet. What's really sad is when a 30+ year olds line up is nothing but casual rpgs. With each passing day I grow more and more disillusioned by this entire genre.
Anyone else starting to get metroidtrania fatigue?

The expensive model kits, of anything, are diecast. Dude, do you know how cheap gunpla is? Sometimes less than $15 a kit. No one in this thread is doing nerd stuff. Hell the entire reason I like video games is probably because I had a neighbor who pirated and distributed games to the entire neighborhood. No one like that here. I feel most people in these threads, if anything, are trying to make up for lost time, and that's why they scrape the barrel for old mediocre and easy to play games and just want to shoot the shit in an /r9k/ thread.

No, playing FGO feels like being drug over a mile of broken glass. This is just a sports simulator that's fairly interesting for about 50 hours and then becomes about autisticly fine tuning minutiae to create super horses afterwords. The manual to explain all the mechanics is about 100 pages long, so, I mean, obviously something is there. It's not like a typical gacha where the gameplay is illusory and you just hit a brick wall. You can beat career immediately and I got to the top pvp class on a f2p account just playing 20 minutes a day and thinking about how I allocate things.

>Sonic isn't a racing game. It has platforming and bosses and combat. It's also not generally competitive
Sonic is a time trial series. You are playing for speed. Time attack was even introduced in Sonic 3, to further gamify this aspect.
>bosses and combat
Plenty of racing games have hazards to avoid or power ups to obtain.
>Going fast and racing are different things
How so? When I am playing these games I am optimizing the same exact way, I'm playing against time and I'm improving my movement in similar ways. It's tapping into the same exact area of the brain.

Nah, let's think about this logically. Anon >>717773578 thinks he's play every good game ever made. However, for example, he lists several Streets of Rage titles, which is a mediocre beltscroller. Both DnD SoM and AvP have better encounter design, smarter routing, higher execution, cooler tricks, more variety, etc., so stuff like this leads me to believe anon has not only not played very many games, but the few he's played are games he's been playing wrong. And it's not like these games are slightly better, they're like objectively, from a scientifically measurable standpoint, 100x better. You can apply this to almost every title he's listed. It's just a dumb normalfag list.

I don't see the point of spoonfeeding people over and over when they never move on from the same entry level garbage. You can whine and concern trolling all you want but I'm quite serious. Dude listed balatro. People like this might as well not exist.

Sorry to say but you can't really discuss video games if you don't play on PC. You're getting like 1% of video games and most of them are movies. I don't think you have ever made a single post of value on this board. It's simply impossible for you.

If I'm genuinely interested in video games why would I want to be around someone who exclusively plays interactive screensavers? It's like /a/ going to shit because it became a place to weekly shonen jump and soapy fujo shit, not a place to discuss its intended subject matter any more. People who are unwilling to engage with the medium will simply push out and displace people who are, as there are more idiots desperately looking for digital heroin to silence their mental disquiet for 2 seconds than there are well-to-do autistic individuals who genuinely enjoy things.

It marketed itself to an audience too dumb to craft. All of PoEs gameplay is recognizing good bases and managing orbs, modifying the probability of drops, etc. Marketing it as a departure from PoE1 gave casuals the wrong idea. They're too stupid to even know what changed. These are people that thing rolling out of an enemy's slow as molasses wind up is thrilling and engaging gameplay.

All valuable content and information is reposted from discord. In this way it's sort of crippling for people with genuine interests, as it's preventing them from actually growing by placing them in weird echo chambers with extremely mentally ill people while spoonfeeding them the bare minimum, and a lot of it is just people bumping threads.

>What's the primary revenue stream of uma musume again ? Manga sales ? Anime sales ?
Funny that you mention it, Umamusume has a hit manga which is publishing in the same magazine as famous seinen classics such as Kingdom, Usogui, and Vagabond. Everything Young Jump touches turns to gold these days, easily my favorite magazine of all time, shame /a/ is too busy crying about WSJ.

2hu has done multiple variations of this. In general its a series about gimmicks and over the top presentation. Most zeroranger fans are 2hu fans, who are also undertale fans. Hence all the 2hu and undertale references in zeroranger. So I'd suggest going to 2hu from zeroranger, then going to CAVE games, which should be approachable after you've 1cc'd a few 2hus. Then you can mess with autism shit like hellsinker.
Chinese and Korean gacha are so intolerably bad I almost missed out on Umamusume because I assumed they were all terrible. If not for the anime I would not have tried it and completely missed out on this excellent game.
I see more and more rumors about a new playstation (real) portable and i know most of you wouldn't buy i wonder if it would even work nowadays
The last 500 chapters of one piece have been pretty much unreadable. They unironically look like they were drawn and written like a drunk toddler. I have no idea what people see in this. Every dictionary ever made plus its usage in general human language, plus common sense. If the "clearing the obstacles" bit isn't the most appealing part of the game, then obviously it's a bad game, and obviously it's probably not very replayable. I think the definition will change soon, as humanity is growing dumber and more distant from self-actualization. Obviously the gameplay is the most appealing part of the game, and you're favorite interactive experience movie game won't outlive anything with proper gameplay. People are still gunna be playing Go 1000 years from now and no one is gunna give a shit about Halo any more. Learning and acquiring mastery is the appeal of games.

The genius bit about diablo 2 is the way runewords function. Endgame is people endless burning runes to roll for perfect stats, so there's a robust economy to play around with. PoE does this with orbs, which are similiarly used for crafting, but in a much more complex way. If you take away that element there's no thought behind your actions and all gear that doesn't directly benefit your character becomes worthless. It's basically stripping away 95% of player input. I wouldn't play OSRS offline either, that would be terribly boring.
>>715903243
Because there's not enough room for discovery and optimisation, the challenge isn't there. Games are meant to be won, not "experienced", and it should be fun to win them again and again better than you did last time. I really like learning and obtaining mastery, that's simply not there in modern Nintendo games. There's just a complete lack of genuine obstacles.

One career takes 15 minutes, and there's really only a reason to run 3 a day to use up your borrows. If you already have 2 9 sparks, then one a day really.
