Marketing and physical availability matters far more than anything else. Most people are driven by what they see on TV, what they see on Walmart shelves, and what they see their friends using. PS5 has no games, it still sold 80 million units. The Deck can play virtually everything portably with the convenience of a console, has a slew of features/controls, is far more consumer friendly, and doubles as a full fledged PC for anything else you could want it for, all in a very reasonably priced package. It is what consoles should be. The only difference is it's not a pillar for Steam the same way a console is a pillar for a corporation like Nintendo. If the Deck sold one unit, it would barely affect Valve and they would continue to work on SteamOS and Proton. If the Switch 2 only sold 10 million units, it would be a catastrophic failure for Nintendo. The two grant marketing and availability to these products based on that fact. I made two reservations for two different configs because I was indecisive and I did it too late and both said they would be ready to buy like a year later.
