I really want to like this game. But everything is designed to annoy you. Every single design choice. All of them. Even shit that is cool conceptually, is ruined by the stupid fucking design choices. Take the Clockwork Dancers for example, this fight is really cool conceptually and is mostly executed well. The problem is, like all bosses, running back is miserable depending on your bench. Not only that, but every attempt requires you to watch them wind up 4 times and they take a lot of damage in every phase. This causes a pretty cool fight to become a slog and miserable if you have to repeat it. Why? For what? "Difficulty"? Decisions like these plague the entire game, and it's getting harder for me to say I like it.

It's the shitty kind of difficult. Not the fun "learn the fight and you're good" type of difficult. The "execute flawlessly during a 5 minute stretch or waste hours" type of difficult.

The only fight I had remotely any fun doing was Widow. That fight looked super hectic but was actually incredibly fair and rewarded you for learning patterns.

Christ you lot are insufferable. Difficulty is not a good thing on its own. You want a reflex challenge? Go play the original simon toy from the 80s(?). You want a game that requires you to be precise? Go play that meme "simulator" game where you flick solo cups onto eachother from across the room. They're both way "harder" than sliksong is, and you can waste as much time as you want playing them.

Difficulty is used by good games to create escalating challenges that reward the player for engaging with deeper mechanics with a sense of accomplishment. Those games have to earn that difficulty by having those deep mechanics in the first place. Just having every other enemy deal double damage right out of the gate isn't deep, its not complex, its lazy. Making enemies require twitch reflexes early enough in the game that your only options are jump, attack, and jump then attack isn't either, and making them take 3x as many hits as their equivalents in the original is a fucking joke.

Honestly the biggest gut punch for me in this game is the one thing I know they're not going to change or fix and that's the music. HK was filled with bangers and beautiful music. This game is either silent or just AI background noise and its sadly gonna keep it at a 8/10 permanently even when they fix the difficulty.

Dung Defender is still rent free in my head and the City of Tears song is when i realized HK was very special. SS is just a soulless boss rush with artificial difficulty up the ass. I remember I used to purposely lose to bosses and the original game just so I could hear the song more, in this one once I beat a boss Im never going to fight it again because it was insufferable.

The way I handled the adds was by immediately getting rid of them with the silk attack that strikes all around you. It comes out quickly enough, and expending bit of silk is small price to pay to stop them from making the fight miserable.
