If you just started chaos I'd recommend on concentrating on a single mission and getting some anima crystals to unlock level 400 of that mission. It'll be pretty quick to get the better items but adjustment from base game to chaos can be annoying imo. Now that jobs get mastery points beyond job lvl 30 concentrate on direct stat improvements for relevant jobs. Eg strength for swordsman for damage and stamina for phys resistance. You can blacksmith stat effects on equipment as well. The real job builds start at rifts in bahamut difficulty though and it's all about affinities and learning what synergies with what

I'm surprised how many great franchises I somehow missed despite being into gaming all my life. Recently picked up ace combat which has been great. I always saw the cases in stores but played other ps2 games like timesplitters.
I also recently got into smt. The only one I played before was strange journey in 2013 or so on emulator. Going through them now I'm blown away by how great every single entry in mainline and spin offs is.

I do this but at some point just stopped buying games since they all get recurring sales anyway. I uninstalled everything except a specific game from my backlog that I wanted to play at that point and just play that. I think it's a common problem. Doesn't necessarily mean depression but could just be burnout. Games should be fun, not a chore. Just walk away from gaming for a bit

Only games I bought full price this year were MH Wilds, Expedition 33, Oblivion Remaster and THPS 3+4 Remake and i don't regret any of them. Even as bad and unfinished as Wilds was/is, I'd still say I got enough playtime and enjoyment out of it to justify the purchase. The only other games I plan to buy this year will be Metroid Prime 4 and Ghost of Yotei.

Anyway, currently making my way to 100% on THPS 3+4, but goddamn some of the Pro Goals feel like bullshit. My skills definitely aren't what they used to be in these games. I remember back as a kid, I had no problem ripping off combos of like 500,000 points. Now, I can barely get a combo off with 200,000 even with max stats. The balance for grinding and manuals seems way more unforgiving, but idk if that's the way the remake is or my skills have deteriorated.

I am 32 years old, I have been trying to beat Metaphor: Refantazio since May now, but I keep burning out.

I have burnt out on it and had to take long breaks, I think, twice now.

I played a little bit of Fantasy Zone II. That game gets bonkers by stage 5, and I have to figure out how to lead the bullets with the boss. I might try to take more sweeping movements because small taps don't seem to be doing it for me. I eventually get pinned. Also picked up on my 10 year old save file for Ys Celceta. Beat two bosses in the final dungeon and I think I'm on the final boss. Seems a little nutty, at least on nightmare it is. Has the four elemental pillars around it which I assume you need to hack away at before you can damage it, or I might need to switch to a ranged character and see what happens. Might have to grind my skills as well which I don't like the prospect of.

I'll probably bounce around some games until one or a few stick.

Atlus RPGs tend to have weird lasting impacts though. i played P3R right after beating Metaphor, took about 100 hours including the not-very-good DLC, and while Metaphor is unquestionably the better video game as a whole, P3 has been living in my head rent-free since i beat it. i can't stop listening to the soundtrack or thinking about the characters. P5 had a similar impact on me after i first beat it, and that game is now in my top 2 of all time and it might not even be #2. Metaphor didn't have that impact on me though. I beat it, loved the experience, then just kinda stopped thinking about it for a while.

Biggest practical difference is that melee combat is also viable and that you don't actually have hit chances. Angles will reduce the damage you do, where full cover will 100% reduce damage if you shoot straight at them. So it is much more about flanking, cover destruction, and such.
So you don't have to worry about the 1% miss but at the same time advancing to get a shot off can be rather annoying at times.

Same, I've played quakeworld before but that multiplayer was always too ADHD for my taste even by Quake standard - just HUH HUH HUH HUH bunnyhopping like madmen while spamming rockets that 1 or 2 hit kill with surprisingly large splash. Q3 did a much better job than Q1/QW or Q2 in balancing the multiplayer nicely.

Q4Max was overall my favorite multiplayer experience of the series, hitting the sweet combat balance of Q3 but adding more movement skill with crouch sliding, but that multiplayer community died hard because the game was too demanding for all the shitty russian PCs when it released and it didn't provide enough of a gameplay change over Q3 for anyone to justify upgrading. If Q4 had proper bot support for multiplayer modes I'd still be playing it.

Been playing a smattering of fighting games, but I don't know if I have the heart for it anymore. I always have fun when I play but just pressing "play" is becoming more taxing. Hit master a few times in sf6 and I don't care about grinding the Mr system.

Otherwise I'm looking forward to Shinobi and Cairn. That's kind of it. I started taking care of a sick family member and it's been beyond miserable.

I played this game when I was a kid but i never actually beat it. I made it all the way to disc 4 and I think i got stuck on a boss and got bored.
This new playthrough is going a lot better now that I'm actually engaging with the mechanics.
I really didnt notice it back then but it's crazy how empty the world is, you can really feel the cut content, It's still kino tho. Comparing it to the other ps1 games, it's not as good as 7 but better than 9; felt fully fleshed out but 9 has worse gameplay (and story imho).

I've started playing it like two days ago. The soundtrack is very comfortable, the controls are super tight and precise. It's a speedrunning autist game at the end of the day but the completion requirements are very lax (you have to clear all the dust and not make any mistakes on a reasonable time) so you can get by just by playing well. You could for instance finish a level in 1:05 at max rank, look at your friends' scores, someone did it on 1:35 and still got the max rank but then you look at the leaderboard and the #1 is a mad lad doing it in 21 seconds.
There's a lot of room for player expression and optimization if you want to but you can still play at your own pace and have fun.
I got it for like a buck and I'm happy I did.
