Factory. After the British weren't there to whip the Indians into doing things properly anymore, pretty much all of their guns have wound up having really shit finishes. I have a 2A Ishapore, one of the early ones before they switched the rear sight design over once they ran out of SMLE parts entirely, and it has a cheap, flaky black finish that is bubbled in some spots. Interestingly has a sort of gray undercoat to it though which I haven't seen on any other Ishapore Enfield.
