5e but I've played 3.5e, 4e, and a handful of other non-DnD games. IDK what changed with the new ruleset but my understanding is that the basics are the same as 5e but they changed up a lot of the classes? I haven't dived into it but I wouldn't mind trying it out to see if it actually plays better.
