it can vary quite a lot in flavor even before getting into things with fruit added. A lot taste just like white wine, most commercial meads do. I don't really like those. White wine is (can be) cheaper.

The stuff I make tastes like honey and well, alcohol I guess, hard to describe. A lot tastes like apple cider as another anon said. My friend brewed some that tasted like beer, not sweet at all, not even slightly.
