Baseline progressivism is benign and does not include toxic purity testing like cancelling people for playing Harry Potter. You don't need to know or care about Harry Potter to be a progressive.
Baseline conservatism however REQUIRES you to be exclusionary. That's what they're trying to conserve, the exclusion of immigrants and minorities. Orange man literally cut billions of dollars that went to legitimate charities for tax cuts under the guise of rooting out "corruption" aka some money went to sexual minorities.
