It presents a better ending than the actual FF7 did (which left off on the heavy implication that Holy had also wiped out humanity because The Planet has down's syndrome and cannot discern between the Shinra Electric Power Company and humanity at large) but was also ground zero for Cloud slashing his wrists in the popular perception (something his old party members actually dump on him for in the movie, going through a depressive spell) which wasn't helped by Kingdom Hearts merging him with Vincent Valentine in a similar timeframe. AC also ended up flavoring pretty much all later FF7 media in one way or another so purists for the original game fucking loathe it.
