In an effort to not be ignorant when comparing manga to western comics, I've taken a deep dive into comics, and let me tell you, it's even worse than you think.
At every corner they make the worst possible decisions and avoid any good decisions like the plague.

Look at their characters, did you know that almost all the characters in western comics were created in the 1940s?
There was some innovation in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, but very little, with most of it being just spinoff variants of already existing characters.
They basically made a small handful of characters and have been phoning it in for the past 80 years.

It's as if manga had created Astro Boy, Speed Racer, and Sailor Moon, and then just called it a day and never created anything new.
