As much as I despise going to /vg/ for anything beyond asking simple questions and leaving when I get an answer, getting rid of /vg/ would be almost as disastrous as getting rid of /pol/. Forget about /utg/'s worst posters, imagine unleashing the most deranged gachafags on the rest of the site, the /ksg/ and /ddlc/ waifufags, the nolife MMO players who treat their general like a group chat. Some of those people certainly poke their head out and peek into the other boards sometimes, but imagine popping that entire balloon and sending the whole wave out at once.
The dam never should have been built, but breaking it down would cause too much damage.
